* U.S. Army Patches, Flashes and Ovals: An Illustrated Encyclopedia of Cloth Unit Insignia Deals

U.S. Army Patches complete!
Mr. Stein's book is an exhaustive work that does an excellent job of describing and illustrating U.S. Army patches. I wish the photos in the plates were a little bigger but they are quite good, crisp images, good color. The book is based on his earlier paperback on the same subject and has the same illustrations, nothing new, but good basic information on each patch, flash, etc., and has what his earlier book lacked, an index. My interest is mainly elite U.S. forces patches, etc., and his book doesn't have many of the unauthorized patches that U.S. Special Forces wore during Vietnam but it does a good job with the ones that were authorized. For the serious collector this is a book you will want to have in your library. For others, it is still a useful book, but the earlier paperback on the same subject is quite good if you don't mind not having an index, and certainly easier on the pocketbook. All in all an excellent book for patches from WW2 forward!
